Comprehensive Health Assessment

You have your annual physical. Your blood pressure looks good. Your basic labs come back “normal.” You’re told everything looks fine. But is that really enough?
As we move through our 50s, 60s and beyond, Dr. Weisz believes healthcare should become more personal and more proactive—not simply a once-a-year checklist.

At Weisz Concierge Medical in Palm Beach Gardens, Dr. Weisz encourage her  patients to look beyond whether their lab results fall within a normal range. The more important question is: What can we do today to help you stay healthy, active and independent for years to come?

Look Beyond the Basic Lab Work

Routine blood work is important, but it doesn’t always tell the entire story. A comprehensive health assessment should consider your cardiovascular and metabolic health, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, weight changes and other risk factors based on your personal and family history. It should also include something that’s often overlooked: how you actually feel.  Are you more tired than usual? Not sleeping well? Gaining weight despite doing the same things you’ve always done? Feeling weaker or noticing changes in your memory? Those details matter.

Make Sure Your Screenings Are Up to Date

Preventive care becomes increasingly important as we age.

Depending on your age, sex, family history and individual risk factors, your physician should review whether you’re current on appropriate cancer screenings, bone-density testing, vaccinations and other preventive care. There isn’t one checklist that’s right for everyone. Your preventive plan should be based on you.

Talk About the Things That Affect Everyday Life

Some of the most important conversations during a physical don’t involve a laboratory result. How are you sleeping? Are you exercising? Have you noticed changes in balance or strength? How is your nutrition? Are you taking medications prescribed by several different doctors? And perhaps most importantly: What do you want your health to allow you to keep doing? Maybe it’s traveling, playing golf or tennis, keeping up with your grandchildren or simply remaining independent in your own home. Those are health goals, too.

Prevention Should Be a Conversation, Not a Checklist

A truly comprehensive health assessment isn’t about ordering every possible test. It’s about having enough time to understand your health today, recognize your individual risks and decide together what deserves attention next. Sometimes the most valuable part of an appointment is simply having the time to ask questions—and having a physician who already knows your story. That’s one of the reasons I chose concierge medicine.
